completely comfortable with the puppy you have so carefully chosen. Quail Point Kennels' definition of “started” is as follows, although
each dog may vary.
In general, a “started” puppy:
- Demonstrates good instinct, style and trainability
- Is introduced to the gun
- Is accustomed to a chain gang and stake-out
- Comes to name and whistle
- Is well socialized — with other dogs and people
- Has flushed and chased birds freely (learned that he/she cannot catch them)
- Holds point for a short period of time
- Is anywhere from 4 to 18 months of age
