ENGLISH POINTERS
The English Pointer is mostly known simply as a "Pointer," especially in the southeast United States, where the
breed is the traditional quail-hunting dog.  The AKC also refers to the breed as "Pointer."  For decades, pointers
dominated the field trial circuit and bird-hunting landscape.  The pointer's history can be traced to the mid
1600's, and while the breed was primarily developed and refined in England, most experts credit Spain as its
country of origin.  The pointer is the result of crossing Spanish pointers with -- most likely -- fox hounds and
bloodhounds (for scenting ability), greyhounds (speed), and bull terriers (tenacity).  Today, the English pointer is
regarded as one of the world's best upland bird hunting breeds, noted for its power, agility and grace.  The pointer
is a hard-driving hunting dog that's all business in the field.

Size
A male English Setter weighs 55 to 75 pounds and stands approximately 25-28 inches at the shoulder.  Females
measure 23-26 inches and weigh 44 to 65 pounds.

Color
Pointers are liver, lemon, black or orange, either in combination with white, or solid-colored.

Coat
Short, dense and smooth.  Upland hunters love the pointer's coat because it doesn't attract/hold burrs.

Temperament
Pointers are even tempered and good companions.

Quail Point Turbo
Turbo is a 3-year-old, liver-and-white male Pointer.  Turbo's bloodline features the following
champions: Elhew Snakefoot, Elhew Strike, Guard Rail, High Fidelity, Miller's Chief, Pike
Creek Mike, and more!  Turbo is crazy about birds, and pursues them in a driving, intense
fashion, as his name suggests.  But, when not hunting, he's great with people and a superb
companion.  Turbo has hunted quail and woodcock in Georgia; pheasants in South Dakota and
Iowa; and grouse & woodcock in Wisconsin.

Turbo is broke to the flush, but not steady to wing & shot.  For an English Pointer, he is not
a big runner; he's made for the foot hunter and foot trialer.  He has competed in 5 UFTA
trials and had a 5-minute finish (three birds pointed & retrieved in 5 minutes) last season.
Turbo is crazy about retrieving!  He has seen a lot of birds; as a puppy he was trained for 7
months by professional Pat LeBree, and I've worked him regularly.  He's accustomed to the e-
collar, retrieves to hand, kennels up on command, travels well, and is ready to hunt for you
right now.  He's a great gun dog and foot-trial prospect!
